Basecamp, Box, SkyDrive work together with Refinder

We are happy to announce that we have just added 3 new integrations to Refinder. Now you can also connect your Basecamp classic, Box or SkyDrive account. This works for Refinder Cloud Search or for Refinder for Teams.

Windows Explorer and Microsoft Outlook used to be the daily hotspot for most knowledge workers. With collaboration and file storage moving to the cloud, new tools are replacing and outpowering Outlook and Explorer. That is why we are switching off these classical integrations for Refinder to integrate new cloud apps for you.

Just about 5 years ago the office looked different. You would manage your contacts, share a calendar entry and send out e-mails via Outlook. You used to search, copy or save your files on the local PC and find them in Windows Explorer.

The Refinder Cloud Search API

Today, I'm happy to introduce another fine piece of Refinder technology, which allows any developer to easily add cloud search functionality to his applications: the Refinder Cloud Search API.

Refinder deployment options

As you may know, straight from its beginnings Refinder has been designed as Software-as-a-Service. This means that the software runs, and the user data are stored, on servers managed and operated by Gnowsis. To use Refinder, you just fire up a Web browser, go to www.getrefinder.com, enter your email address and password, and there you go.

Privacy and Security in Refinder

We at Gnowsis understand that your data is a valuable good. Your data may be a critical factor for your business, and you rightfully take care of your private stuff. Certain parts of your data (like emails or business documents) are for sure not to be seen by others, and we respect this. Most importantly, your data will not be visible to any other user.

The Power of URLs (or: addresses for your information)

One thing that tech people working in the Web area are familiar with are URLs — the so-called Uniform Resource Locators. A URL is basically a short piece of text that uniquely identifies something, and if two parties are exchanging such an URL everyone knows what the other party is referring to.

LASSO: Lookup and Alignment Services with Semantic Open Data

Gnowsis is happy to be part of the LASSO project. In this two-year project (which is partially funded by the FFG FIT-IT Semantic Systems programme) we aim to explore methods how we can exploit the huge amounts of structured data on the Web in order to improve Personal Information Management activities. We carry out this project together with our partners punkt.net Services GmbH, IWM @ TU Graz, and Neurovation GmbH.

Cluug on the iPad

Yesterday I tried Cluug on the iPad, testing how it behaves. It works like a charm, the only point where I had to get creative was with the features implemented as hover-over actions.

Cluug Tutorials Part 2: Relations and Recommendations

One of the most powerful features of Cluug is its ability to relate (or link) your things. This can be done manually, or by using Cluug's powerful recommendation mechanism that suggests potentially interesting things, both from your personal data but also from public data sources. Watch how you can use relations and recommendations here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0qrWvGdnfE

Cluug Tutorials

Cluug Tutorials is a series of screencasts that demonstrate useful features. See the first part about the Cluug bookmarklet here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS05rgCrw-M
