Leo Sauermann was at the Intelligent Office Appliances Workshop of the 3rd Conference on Professional Knowledge Management in Kaiserslautern, Germany. The presented paper is available for download.

Modern office appliances offer valuable support for routine activities in office work. In spite of such support, it is claimed that knowledge-intensive office work has not reached satisfying increases in productivity in recent years. The reason for this perceived lack of productivity increase in knowledge-intensive office work is seen in the insufficient understanding of the nature of knowledge-intensive work and the lack of adequate integration of information support and work activities. In addition, the increasing amount of non-standard, unique, or project-type work activities ask for highly dynamic adaptations of technical office support.

So, productivity can be increased, at least on the programmer's side, when we stick to simple protocols and RDF as the holy grail data format. Gnowsis fitted quite good to this conference and we had a nice presentation followed by good food and socialising.
